Insurers further publicly undertook to expedite payments for work done by their small businesses suppliers to improve their cashflow.Ĭovid-19 has changed the way we conduct business and engage with each other. Insurers widely communicated to policyholders the various relief measures that include payment holidays, premium refunds, premium reductions, reduced excesses, waiver of waiting periods, etc. Regular engagement between the regulators and industry resulted in additional relief not only for financial customers but also for financial institutions. Recognising the importance of customers understanding their rights and duties, the FSCA further published guidelines that customers can apply when considering their particular financial situation. The Authority strongly emphasised that profiteering off those that are vulnerable will not be tolerated and it further implemented regulatory measures to facilitate the delivery of premium relief to policyholders to no effect on their ability to claim or on the expected income of intermediaries. To ensure that customers are treated fairly through the entire product cycle, the FSCA communicated its expectations of conduct to insurers concerning advertising, new product development, changes to existing products, sales, premium collection, renewals, claims and complaints. The aim of these measures was to ensure the protection and fair treatment of customers, the safety and soundness of financial institutions and to assist financial institutions during this unprecedented time. The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) and the Prudential Authority, who respectively are responsible for the conduct and prudential regulation of financial institutions, responded with various regulatory measures. To minimise the economic impact of Covid-19 Government implemented a fiscal stimulus package that is supported by complementary monetary and financial regulatory measures. All are working together cohesively to achieve the same objectives with little or no political agenda. However, South Africans find considerable encouragement in the extraordinary and highly visible cooperation and collaboration that is taking place amongst all role players, including government, regulators, industry, some high-net-worth individuals and ordinary citizens. The country does not only have high levels of poverty and co-morbidity, but living conditions make social distancing challenging. The lockdown measures (including the prohibition of the sale of alcohol and tobacco products) are some of the strictest implemented across the globe and, although imperative to prevent the spread of the virus it has resulted in severe socio-economic and psychological distress to many of South Africa’s citizens. With effect from 1 May 2020, the country moved from a level 5 which only allows essential services to operate, to a level 4 that provides for some restrictions on economic activity to be lifted. South Africa adopted a risk-adjusted approach based on five levels to resume normal economic activity. ![]() However, South Africa’s response to the pandemic and President Ramaphosa’s leadership was praised by the WHO as the country battles the highest number of cases on the African continent. A courageous decision, given the impact the lockdown would have on South Africa’s already struggling economy. The Government immediately responded with swift and decisive action by declaring a National State of Disaster and placing the country in total lockdown. South Africa’s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic started much later compared to the rest of the world with its first case only reported on 5 March 2020. ![]()

![]() Most people wonder if bed-in-a-box mattresses smell after unboxing. Personally, Id recommend having a friend help you unbox the Nectar, as it can feel a little heavy thanks to its dense memory foam layers. When you lay down on the fully-decompressed Nectar mattress, you don’t sink down into it.The Nectar is a bed-in-a-box mattress, which means it will need to be unboxed and decompressed before use. The multiple layers of memory foam aid in contouring the mattress as you lay down on it. I don’t know if that’s because of the contouring or because of the firmness, but I love it! Nectar’s Memory Foam Contouring He’s also a restless sleeper, but now I can’t feel when he rolls over. With the Nectar mattress my side of the bed doesn’t sink or bounce when he lays down. My husband and I go to bed at different times. It’s not a marshmallow cloud but it’s also not a wood plank.Īs someone who likes a firm mattress, I had to get used to it, but the memory foam contouring (described below) makes a big difference in the type of mattress I usually prefer! I have to say that the support of the Nectar mattress makes me happy that it isn’t any firmer than it is! Once the mattress was fully decompressed I would non-scientifically say that it has a firmness of about 7 out of 10. ![]() ![]() It firmed up quite a bit within a few hours, and even more by the next day! I’m pretty sure that this degree of mattress sink was because the mattress wasn’t fully decompressed. You can see in my Nectar mattress video review that I sink down when I sit on the mattress for the first time. My husband is significantly bigger than me, and we’ve used mattresses that are so soft I’ve rolled toward him all night! I was also a bit concerned, because I like a firm mattress. I was surprised at how soft the Nectar mattress was when I first sat on it. Of course, all the layers inside of a mattress and the construction are unimportant if it’s not comfortable to sleep on! Like most spot-cleaning, you can clean your Nectar mattress with a water and a mild detergent. The mattress cover zips around the mattress, making it even easier to get a thick cloth underneath if you have an area you need to blot. I’m beyond happy to report that the Nectar Mattress can be spot-cleaned. While nighttime accidents don’t happen any more (thank you, potty training) sick kids do. In technical terms, the outermost, top layer of the mattress is the Tencel Cooling Cover. Here’s my Nectar mattress review video of the unboxing and my first thoughts: It’s so straightforward, it’s hardly more than what I’ve already told you! If you decide for any reason that Nectar isn’t your ideal mattress, Nectar will remove the mattress from your home and refund 100% of your payment on the day they pick it up. Who pays to return the mattress? How do you bring a mattress to the post office? How do you even return a mattress? It just felt like the company would make it so difficult to return the product that most people wouldn’t do it. A key aspect of the process was restricting Native Americans to reservations and establishing Native-American boarding schools. Toward the end of the 19th century, the “War Policy” that had been ongoing against Native American tribes began to be accompanied by a “Peace Policy.” The goal of the Peace Policy was to eliminate Native Americans or “Indianness” through assimilation to a Eurocentric ideal.
